Webinar Session 6: An Introduction to E-Prescribing

Purpose: Electronic prescribing (e-prescribing) is one feature tied with "Meaningful Use" of an Electronic Health Record. Some of the described benefits of e-prescribing are checking patient benefits/insurance information, supporting dosage calculations, measuring drug-drug interactions and securely transmitting the prescription. This lecture is to familiarize physicians and their offices with the basics and the intricacies of this newer technology.

From this knowledge, physicians should be able to:
  • Explain the functionality and benefits of e-prescribing
  • Summarize practical considerations for implementation in practice
  • Identify resources or tools to facilitate adoption
Intended Audience: Primary Care Physicians, Pediatricians, Family Medicine, Obstetricians-Gynecologists, and Internal Medicine
