Purpose: Within Electronic Health Records, privacy and security is one caveat to demonstrate "Meaningful Use" of Electronic Health Records (EHR). While all medical professionals were trained in patient privacy, new security challenges arise with the use of EHRs. This lecture introduces physicians to legal requirements of health data security and how to maintain health data privacy. From this knowledge, physicians should be able to
1. Explain the difference between privacy and security
2. Integrate policies to ensure data security
3. Reflect on the changes to medical practice required for securing EHRs
Intended Audience: Primary Care Physicians, Pediatricians, Family Medicine, Obstetricians-Gynecologists, Internal Medicine, Mid-Level Providers and Office Staff
