Medicare Incentives

An Eligible Professional (EP) for Medicare incentives is defined as a:
  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy

A qualifying EP can receive EHR incentive payments for up to five years with payments beginning as early as 2011. Payments are calculated based on 75% of an EP's Medicare allowable charges in a given year. In general, the maximum amount of total incentive payments that an EP can receive under the Medicare program is $44,000. Beginning in 2015, EPs who fail to demonstrate Meaningful Use will be subject to payment adjustments (penalties) for their covered professional services.
